Our Work

A project framework for restoration, water security and community resilience

This plan is participatory, sustainable, and adaptive, ensuring environmental restoration goes hand in hand with community development and economic empowerment.

Project Objectives

Clear outcomes for land, water and people

The objectives connect ecological repair with practical infrastructure, tourism development and local enterprise.

1

Restore lost forest cover through extensive reforestation efforts.

2

Implement water conservation measures aimed at increasing reservoir water levels.

3

Protect and retain the watershed to ensure a continuous and reliable water supply.

4

Establish an uninterrupted water supply system for current users.

5

Introduce an efficient water distribution system that meets current demands and allows future expansion.

6

Develop the area sustainably as a tourism destination that supports livelihoods and environmental preservation.

7

Promote agro-tourism on six tea-land plots covering 25 acres.

8

Support new income-generating small businesses led by women's groups and seniors.

Action Plan and Implementation Strategy

Practical steps from baseline study to long-term management

Reforestation and Forest Cover Restoration

  • Conduct a baseline survey to identify deforested and degraded areas within the reservation boundaries.
  • Develop a reforestation schedule using native tree species suited to the local ecosystem.
  • Engage local communities and schools in tree planting campaigns to encourage ownership.
  • Monitor and maintain planted areas to ensure healthy seedling growth and survival.

Water Conservation and Watershed Protection

  • Assess current water sources, reservoir capacity, and watershed condition.
  • Implement check dams, contour trenches, and vegetative buffers to reduce runoff and improve infiltration.
  • Educate communities on water-saving practices and watershed preservation.
  • Monitor water quality and quantity to evaluate conservation effectiveness.

Water Supply and Distribution System Development

  • Design and install pumps, storage tanks, pipelines, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Optimize the network for equitable access, lower losses, and future demand growth.
  • Train a local maintenance and management team to oversee system functionality.
  • Develop contingency plans for droughts or system failures.

Sustainable Tourism Development

  • Identify tourism assets including natural scenery, cultural heritage, and agro-tourism sites.
  • Develop eco-friendly facilities and services that minimize environmental impact.
  • Create marketing strategies that attract visitors and promote responsible tourism.
  • Train residents in hospitality, tour guiding, and small business management.

Agro-tourism Promotion on Tea Lands

  • Collaborate with tea landowners and authorities to designate six plots covering 25 acres.
  • Develop plantation tours, harvesting demonstrations, and tasting sessions.
  • Add walking paths, signage, and rest areas to improve visitor engagement.
  • Partner with tour operators and community groups to promote agro-tourism packages.

Income Generation through Small Businesses

  • Identify suitable small businesses such as handicrafts, food processing, and guided tours.
  • Provide workshops on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and product development.
  • Facilitate access to microfinance, grants, or seed funding.
  • Establish a local cooperative to coordinate resources and market products collectively.
